Fulbright Awards for Scholars and Professionals

The traditional Fulbright Scholar Program sends 800 U.S. faculty and professionals abroad
each year. Grantees lecture and conduct research in a wide variety of academic and
professional fields.

The Fulbright Program is sponsored by the United States Department of State, Bureau of
Educational and Cultural Affairs. Under a cooperative agreement with the Bureau, the
Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) assists in the administration of the
Fulbright Scholar Program for faculty and professionals.

Every year, 800 U.S. Fulbright Scholars in 140 countries and all regions
of the world enjoy an experience of a lifetime, one that provides a
broad cultural perspective on their academic disciplines and connects
them with colleagues at institutions around the globe. Awards range
from two months to an academic year. Grants are awarded to faculty of
all academic ranks, including adjunct and emeritus. In most countries
lecturing is in English, though awards in Latin America, Francophone
Africa, and the Middle East may require proficiency in another language.

U.S. Citizenship is required. For other eligibility requirements,
detailed award descriptions, and an online application, visit the CIES
website at
www.cies.org.
