Assistant Professor in African American Studies: Social Science
The Department of African American Studies (DAAS) in the College of Liberal Arts at Temple University invites applicants from the social sciences to apply for a tenure track, full time DAAS faculty position at the Assistant Professor level to begin Fall 2012. Social scientists (e.g. African American Studies, Political Science, Sociology, Anthropology, History, Economics, Psychology, etc.) whose research and teaching focus on issues affecting African Americans and other populations of African descent are of special interest. Candidates with expertise or demonstrated research interest in public policy (e.g., health, education, economics, justice) are particularly encouraged to apply. Candidates must have PhD by the start date of the position and must demonstrate strong ability to teach, research, and publish across a range of African American or Africana issues. The position requires teaching, mentoring, and other duties with students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. "African American literary, Folklore, and Cultural Studies" to apply to Florida State University's Department of English. Tenure-Track Position in African American Studies
The Department of African American Studies in the College of Humanities and Science at Virginia Commonwealth University seeks to fill a full-time tenure track position, contingent upon funding, for August 2012. This position is at the assistant or associate professor level. The ideal candidate will specialize in African and/or African Diasporic subject matter (e.g., history, culture, politics, art, film and cinema, African traditional religion/healing.). Candidates with a specialization in Africana Women’s Studies or health disparities are especially desirable. A doctoral degree in Africana Studies, African American Studies, or a closely related field is preferred. Candidates with a degree in the social sciences will be considered. The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of scholarly productivity, atrack-record of securing external funding, and the ability to teach both undergraduate and graduate level courses in African Diasporic content areas. Essential functions of this position include: maintaining an active research program, teaching courses in the Department of African American Studies, contributing to curriculum development, grant writing, serving on program, college, and university committees, recruiting students, and substantial community engagement. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU is required.

The John Hope Franklin Research Center for African and African American History and Culture, part of the David M. Rubenstein Rare Book & Manuscript Library at Duke University, announces the availability of travel grants for research travel to our collections.
The John Hope Franklin Research Center seeks to collect, preserve, and promote the use of printed and manuscript materials bearing on the history of Africa and people of African descent.
Research grants are available to any faculty member, graduate or undergraduate student, or independent scholar with a research project requiring the use of materials held by the Franklin Research Center. Grant money may be used for travel, photocopying, and living expenses while pursuing research at the Rubenstein Library. Applicants must live outside of a 100-mile radius from Durham, NC. The maximum award per applicant is $1,000.
The deadline for application is January 31, 2012 by 5:00 PM EST. Recipients will be announced in March 2012. Grants must be used between April 1, 2012 and June 30, 2013.

The head leads a department with an established undergraduate program, developing graduate program, active research program, and strong engagement across the university. Candidates must have qualifications appropriate to appointment with tenure, including Ph. D., national and international reputation for scholarly productivity in research, and demonstrated teaching accomplishments. Previous teaching experience and research in the discipline of African American Studies are highly desirable. The Africana Studies Program at Texas A&M University invites applications for the position of Director. This is a faculty position with appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level.
